Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
I can’t blame Thomas for asking this question. How do you get to somewhere, if you don’t have the somewhere? Jesus’ response reveals that directions are not necessary, and that they already have who they need to get to to God’s house. In fact, it’s not just Thomas that will need Jesus to get there: everyone who wants to get to God’s house needs to come to Christ. Jesus is the way because He is God the Son and He alone dealt with our sin. Our hope for heaven rests solely upon Christ. To know Jesus is to also know God the Father.
