ALERT! ALERT! Have You Seen Anyone Fitting This Description?

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Psalm 14:1 KJV

Time is drawing ever so close.  We must each look ourselves over closelyDo an inspection.  We may not say we do not believe, but if we say we do believe and yet do not follow Jesus by what the word of God tells us then do we really believe?

Think about it!

Have YOU ever done anything contrary to the word of the Lord?  Do you walk around proclaiming to be a Christian and yet those around you think they see something different OR they think this is what a Christian must look like?

I am not only speaking to whoever might read this but speaking to myself too.  I think if ANY of us say we have never, would never then we deceive ourselves.

Even Peter and the disciples did not think THEY of all people would deny Jesus.  Yet in Matthew 26:30-35  Jesus tells Peter he will deny Him not once but 3 times.  Peter (like us or maybe more than us because we should really be aware of how easily we will be deceived even by our own hearts), but Peter DID NOT think he would ever deny Jesus.  We always seem much braver in the beginning, before the chaos begins than we do when we have suddenly found ourselves in the middle of it!  Suddenly our flesh seems to take over and away we go!

Lets look at what Peter’s response is to Jesus….  Matthew 26:31  Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

Matthew 26:33  Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.

Luke 22:33  And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

We all know Peter was so wrong.  He felt he could NEVER leave the Lord’s side!  He believed it!  He loved the Lord!  And yet he did just as Jesus said he would.  The minute Peter did it he knew.  The brokenness he must have felt at that moment.  Have you ever done something that you knew in your spirit you should not have?  You found it hard to repent because you KNEW you were so wrong?  You felt the Lord would not blot this one out….you had crossed the line…you had went to far this time?  We deserve the penalty of sin.  We must humble ourselves before the Lord and repent…repent…repent.

TEMPTATION

I want to ask, do you or do you know someone who is always talking about how they just gave into temptation again.  I mean we are tempted right?  Turn from it.  Flee from it.  I think far too often we think about it too lightly.  We just think, well, I am simply man and weak.  I will repent of that again tonight.  Let’s go back to Matthew 26.

Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.Mat 26:36 KJV
And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.Mat 26:37 KJV
Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.Mat 26:38 KJV  (Think about these words Jesus speaks.  His soul is EXCEEDING SORROWFUL, even unto DEATH. Yes, Jesus is the King of kings, but right here at this moment to the disciples He was who they called friend. And yet they seemed to not hear Him, hear His words.  Hear the agony in His voice.)
And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.Mat 26:39 KJV
And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?Mat 26:40 KJV
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.Mat 26:41 KJV
He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.Mat 26:42 KJV
And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.Mat 26:43 KJV
And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.Mat 26:44 KJV
Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.Mat 26:45 KJV
Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.Mat 26:46 KJV

I want you to notice that between the verse where Jesus is speaking about how sorrowful His very own soul is and how He asks them to stay AND watch with Him while he prays, and the verse where Jesus comes back to find them SLEEPING, notice the difference in Jesus.

Jesus wakes them and pretty much immediately gives them a warning.  Verse 26:41 Jesus says, Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.  Then Jesus goes away again to pray.

Watch – Means to stay vigilant.  Stay awake.  Don’t be led away because you are not paying attention.  Watch so you are not deceived.  If you are not watching then our houses can be broken into.

Pray – We are told to pray ALWAYS.  Always be speaking with the Lord God, always be seeking Him with all our heart, soul and mind.  Keep our mind on Him and His ways all the time.

TEMPTATION – What does this mean?  Below is the word in the original text before translation.

G3986
πειρασμός
peirasmos
pi-ras-mos’
From G3985; a putting to proof (by experiment [of good], experience [of evil], solicitation, discipline or provocation); by implication adversity: – temptation, X try.
Total KJV occurrences: 21

I will end with this.

To me this word temptation that we so easily say “the devil tempted me” or whatever way we fluff it off as our excuse.  Is it nothing more than our choice?  Putting to proof by experiment of good, experience of evil.  It is a choice.  It is our choice.  We do wrong because we choose to do wrong.  Reminds me of Joshua 24.

Choose Whom You Will Serve
Jos 24:14  Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
Jos 24:15  And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Jos 24:20  If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
Jos 24:21  And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.
Jos 24:22  And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
Jos 24:23  Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.
Jos 24:24  And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
Jos 24:25  So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
Jos 24:26  And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
Jos 24:27  And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.
Jos 24:28  So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
