My Father Is…..

John 8:42-47
Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

COMMENTARY

In verses 31-32 Jesus says, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jesus is addressing Jews who have believed Him, yet knowing their hearts He clarifies that they need to be set free. His audience is having a difficult time understanding why they need to be set free. Jesus responds that everyone who sins is a slave to sin. He confront them more by saying, “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires.” Satan is in the business of twisting truth into lies and these folks are unable to see Jesus as the truth: the only way to God the Father. Holy Spirit, protect us from being unable to hear the truth. Reveal to us any corrupt allegiance that we have to evil, and let the light of Christ illuminate our hearts.

Galatians 3:1-3
You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.  I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard?  Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?
COMMENTARY
We receive the Holy Spirit by believing the message about Jesus Christ. Romans 10:17 (NKJV) says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. Only in obedience to the gospel will we be able to remain in Christ and not fall captive to judgment according to the law. It is by grace through faith in Christ Jesus that we are saved and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. No amount of “following rules and traditions” has drawn the Holy Spirit to live in us. God loves us, and He wants relationship with us. It is the work of Jesus Christ upon the cross, His life, death, and resurrection. It is because Christ Jesus succeeded in His mission and took His rightful place at the right hand of God that we are able to share in communion and community with the Triune God. It is only by His blood, and only by His mercy.

Lord! Lord!

I fall before you Lord and CRY OUT!  LORD GOD HEAR ME, HELP ME!  I want so much to be completely pure and blameless before you.  I need you!  I cannot walk without you!  You know me better than I know myself.  I trust you to live in me and continue to change me everyday!  Thank you Jesus….thank you!

Psalm 139:1-3
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

Consider today how you live your life. Do you ever act like nobody is watching? Do you ever think as if nobody else knows what you’re thinking? Today, hear the truth: the Lord searches you and knows you perfectly. This truth forever propels us toward grace, because if it was not for the grace of God in Christ Jesus, we could not be in relationship with Him. Because of grace, God sees the righteousness of Christ when He looks upon a person who believes in Jesus. Isaiah 43:25 says, “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.” You have been set free to rely on the power of God and sin no more. He knows your ways, and He is able to deliver you from evil every time. Take courage, and trust in the complete sufficiency of Christ.
