Seeking Wisdom?

Proverbs 2:1-5

<

p class=”text” style=”color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;line-height:normal;”>My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

Facing Evil

When we are in trials and struggles and pure evil, look triumphantly because we know that no matter what we already have victory through Jesus Christ!

Psalm 54:6-7
I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, Lord, for it is good. You have delivered me from all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.

Commentary /prayer

Lord Jesus, I am so grateful that You loved me enough to endure the cost of sin. You gave Your life so that I may have eternal life, and You rescued my soul from certain death. Lord rise up, and deliver us from the evil that is within us! Lend us the courage to run to you when tempted in this life. We seek to remain in You Lord Jesus, and we trust in Your mighty grip on us that will never let us go. We praise You! Who else can deliver us!? Who else can perfectly know us!?

Help is Here!

Oh how I thank you Lord!   You are always with us but sometimes we are so caught up in the battle we don’t take the time to seek You.  I mean REALLY  seek You.  Sitting down in a quiet place and simply calling upon Your name is often what we need in order to get some perspective back.

Psalm 54:4
Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.

COMMENTARY

We serve a God who has chosen to be vested in our lives. He sought to be with us, and succeeded in doing so through His Son Jesus Christ, and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Today’s promise that God sustains us is not only for us individually, but for each other through one another. God is not only with you, He chooses to be with those who stand firm with you. Whether it be helping to carry your burdens, helping to see you through times of temptation or crisis, or just being a strong brother or sister in Christ; Jesus wants His body (the church) to serve and “uphold” one another in love.

Like a Family Quilt

We cry out and we are saved and then what?

1 John 4:15

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

Romans 10:9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Galatians 6:1-2

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Jude 1:22-23

And of some have compassion, making a difference: and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Comparison

I am a person who likes to quilt.  I am nor the best but I have made some pretty nice ones for a beginner who for the most part was self taught.   Thanks for you tube videos and the tips I have found from many who are professionals!

So we have the quilt that is so worn and soft and it is used often. Then we have the quilt that IS very beautiful but it seems to be stuck up in the top shelf of the closet and the closet that is located in the bedroom that is vacant and rarely occupied even for a night.

I wonder if Christians can define themselves as the quilt that is accessible and used often or as the one hidden in the top of a closet that is rarely even seen?

It is interesting how maybe we think we are doing well by putting the beautiful quilt away for that special guest that might stop in one day.  Ironically they would probably want the one that the rest of the family goes for.  The nice soft and comfortable and the accessible one.

The quilts might be likened unto two grandmothers.  One is accessible and one is not.  One is comforting and the other is not.   The one that is soft and accessible and often used for comfort, just to be wrapped up in love.  That one probably has much wisdom to share.  She has many family stories to share.  She shares family history.  The one that is rarely used is a little stiff.   Can it be likened to a person that makes you feel a little like you are intruding on them and therefore they simply feel they would do you a favor and fold you back up and put you back up in the dark top shelf of the closet?

God created both.  Both cried out to God that they might be saved.  God called both to go out and comfort many.  God desires both to be used for the glory of the Lord.

It may not be easy for the quilt in the dark closet.  Maybe it longs to share the warmth that God gave it to share.  Perhaps it was in a home for most of the folded years where no one wanted to see it or hear from it so opening up is not as easy for it.  Maybe the one that is so wonderfully used never lived a moment being folded up and stuck in darkness and therefore is confident and comfortable being around everyone.  The one in the closet might be yearning for someone to get it out and wash it a time or two help it, diciple it.

We may cry out to the Lord and He does hear our cry and He saves us but then what?   Most need someone who is able to take them out of the darkness and into the light and show them the ropes.   Soon that quilt might be comfortable and accessible too.  If you are saved and no one cares about you right after then you are more than likely going to go back into the darkness where you feel accepted.  It isn’t where we are called to be but for many of us we are still too vulnerable to be in the light without someone walking with us and showing us the next steps in our journey with the Lord.

As Christians we are all part of the blocks that are sewn together.  Together we can make that family quilt.  Do you see someone who might be gravitating back into the dark closet?  Are you standing around gossiping about them and saying how they must have never been saved?  Are you going to them and helping them feel accepted in their new walk so they don’t end up vulnerable and more comfortable in the place they first started.

Matthew 12:43-45

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
Jude 1:22-23

And of some have compassion, making a difference: and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
I  will end with this praise to the Lord.

Jude 1:24-25

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Gift to Give Your Child

There is but one gift that your child cannot outgrow.  This is the One gift that will grow with them as they grow.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9
These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.

COMMENTARY
We have a responsibility to pass along the truth of who God is to our children. This is a “pull out all the stops” message. Do whatever it takes so that your children know that the Lord is God and there is no other! Constantly tell stories and relate your children’s experiences with stories that tell of God’s greatness. Let them know that they are part of a grand design, and that they are not alone! Speak to them with love and mercy, showing a collision of discipline, correction, and wisdom. Live your live in such a way that the gospel is on display, that they would meet Jesus!

I Need You Father

image

Psalm 140:7
Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle.

Commentary
If you are a Christian, battles are coming your way. You will experience trials that tempt you to sin and renounce your faith in God. The spiritual realm is at war for your soul, and this impacts the decisions you make every day. All of these battles belong to the Lord and it is our job recognize this truth and live accordingly. Live like God will deliver you. Live like He works to protect you from harm. Cry out to him and put your hardships on display before the Lord. Crisis does not come to your life only to steal and cause pain, it is also a birthplace of the miraculous.

Faith

image

Galatians 5:5-6
For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.  For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

COMMENTARY
Amazing love drives us toward a working faith in Christ. James 2:21-22 says, “Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.” (NIV) Abraham was willing to act according to his faith, and God responds to that and spares Isaac. God never intended to have Abraham kill Isaac, but He desired Abraham to live in an obedience driven by love. Our faith consists of both belief in God and right action in response to that belief.

Who Will Help the Poor?

Psalm 35:9-10
Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord and delight in his salvation. My whole being will exclaim, “Who is like you, Lord? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.”

COMMENTARY
Jesus came for the poor, the downcast, the oppressed, and the sick. In truth, all are sick with sin and therefore all need Jesus. Christ meets this need we all have: how to deal with our sin. We are forgiven in Christ and there is reason for much rejoicing! Thank You God that You are for us, and are a God of justice and mercy. May we all experience You in a way that causes us to truly offer our lives to You in worship. Let us be the living sacrifices that please You. (Romans 12:1 paraphrased)

Middle – East Prophecy Update January 10th, 2016

Verse to Quiet the Soul

Psalm 23:1-3a
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,  he refreshes my soul.

COMMENTARY
A shepherd looks after the well-being of his flock. Even though this is true, sheep sometimes wander. Our verse today comes from a sheep who recognizes the goodness of his shepherd, and lives covered under his care. There is a promise to meet our needs, a promise of restoration, and a promise of relationship; not only in this Psalm, but throughout scripture. Our amazing shepherd, Jesus Christ, has led us to salvation and he has promised rest for those for those who come to Him. This is not a rest promising an easy life, but it is rest with our Father who yearns to shepherd and restore us.

Where Do I Begin?

Dear Father in heaven,
I am so sorry for the ugly that is consuming this world. I am even more disturbed with the church in this late hour.  Yet we cannot blame the church buildings filled with the believers that allow and accept the disgust and lack of real biblical truth creep onto the pews with each one.  We are each to blame in one way or another.  I pray Your word back to You Lord.  I  humbly ask You to have mercy on us, on this nation. We are not deserving of it.  Begin a new work in each one of us who are your children,  don’t give up on us but take us by the hand and raise us up.

Our Eyes Look to the Lord Our God
Psalm 123 A Song of Ascents.

To you I lift up my eyes,
O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
Behold, as the eyes of servants
look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maidservant
to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he has mercy upon us.
Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
for we have had more than enough of contempt.
Our soul has had more than enough
of the scorn of those who are at ease,
of the contempt of the proud.

Hear our prayers oh Lord and have mercy. In the precious name of Jesus I pray. Amen

What is Truth? Many are Searching and Many are Confused.

I am afraid that no matter what I say here I could have an argument with many. Why? I suppose because so many are lost and confused. That is because of the evil that is in this world. Not all lost people are evil people. Not all unbelieving people are evil people. All lost people are unsaved people.

Some will agree with me and some will say, “saved from what?”
Truth to me may not be truth to another. In that case then just what is truth? Is there even such thing as truth?

Galatians 1:6-8

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.

John 8:31-33

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

So, I say to seek the Lord with all your heart and soul and He will reveal the truth to you.  The evil one has come to steal and kill and to destroy.  Don’t be fooled by smooth words.  Measure everything by the word of God.  When you hear those who lead this world and say that we are all following the same God and we should all come and worship together I pray that you will really look at and listen to what is being said.  One group may believe Jesus was a man and a prophet but not believe that He is God and that He came and He died for you and me and for our sins so that we might have life.  So that cannot be the same god that I worship and believe in.  We must be on guard.  We must seek truth.  Be careful and be not deceived.

I will end with what I know to be my truth.

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Matthew 7:13-15

13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

Are You Watching? Look for the Light in the Darkness.

Things are really getting crazy out there and seems darker by the day.  Yet….God is still on the throne and He is still working!

INSERTION===(The morning I wrote this I emailed to a group of ladies I work with and we had been doing a bible study at work at lunch one day a week.  I thought they would all agree how wonderful this was but instead I saw quite the opposite and it really broke my heart.  Again, I guess it just goes to show that you never know who may be sitting next to you in church or wherever and claims to be a believer in Jesus Christ, well lets just say they might be deceiving themselves.)  Now, back to my story.

So, this morning while getting ready for work a verse came to my mind. I put 3 of my favorite versions below.

Habakkuk 1:5 (NIV)

“Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.

(ESV)

“Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.

(NASV)

“Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because I am doing something in your days– You would not believe if you were told.

So, while thinking about these I asked the Lord….”hmmmmm , So are You about to do something utterly amazing so that Your name might be glorified for all to see??? “

On my drive into work this morning the radio station I listen to KLRC read this news article.  (After hearing it I thought…”How amazing!  Thank you Lord for the town that is trying to be a light in the darkness!” John 1:5 (NIV) The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Matthew 5:16 (NIV) In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:15 (NIV) Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house.  I could not help but think back to when I was getting ready for work this morning when the Habakkuk verse came to my mind.  I gotta give it to this town for doing this KNOWING they will surely end up getting some grief for it.  I will say that after all the police drama these days and how everyone seems to under appreciate them and what they do for us daily with the exception of a few bad apples that I was amazed this town is pulling together and taking a stand!  Praise the Lord!!

People Positive Over Bible Verse On Pottsville Police Car By STEPHANIE SHARP | ssharp@kark.com Published 09/30 2015 10:19PMUpdated 09/30 2015 11:51PM

ARKANSASMATTERS

POTTSVILLE, Ark. – A small police force in the river valley is getting some new decor. In addition to sirens and lights, you’ll see a bible verse on one of its cruisers. In the small town of just about three thousand, Pottsville Mayor Jerry Williams says you can find a common theme across the community. “[We have] four churches on one block,” Williams said, “We have a religious based community, and that’s shown in what we do around here.” When the police department came to him asking to put a bible verse on the back of a cruiser, he agreed. “I felt like this was a very good thing, and I went ahead and gave my okay for it,” Williams said. The verse is Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” “There is a lot of good feedback from it. A lot of people have mentioned that this is a good thing,” Williams said. People who live in Pottsville are glad it’s there. “It shows respect to the people we let take care of us and protect our community,” Brandy Price. Williams and Prince say they believe some people may not agree with it. “They have their own options and they have their right to that,” Prince said. “There is going to be opposition, there is opposition in about everything you do,” Williams said. Williams says, for now, it’s here to stay. “You may not believe like we do, you may not live like our community does, but this is something our community believes in,” Williams said. The verse is only on one vehicle now, but the department hopes to expand. A spokesperson for the ACLU says since the verse comes from the New Testament it is favoring one religion over another and could become a first amendment establishment of religion case. However, it has to be brought forward  by a citizen in the community.
