My Father Is…..

John 8:42-47
Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

In verses 31-32 Jesus says, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jesus is addressing Jews who have believed Him, yet knowing their hearts He clarifies that they need to be set free. His audience is having a difficult time understanding why they need to be set free. Jesus responds that everyone who sins is a slave to sin. He confront them more by saying, “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires.” Satan is in the business of twisting truth into lies and these folks are unable to see Jesus as the truth: the only way to God the Father. Holy Spirit, protect us from being unable to hear the truth. Reveal to us any corrupt allegiance that we have to evil, and let the light of Christ illuminate our hearts.

Keep Hope Alive

Keep near the Lord. Draw nearer today than you were yesterday.  May God have mercy on us all.

Colossians 1:21-23
Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.  But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation — if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
Even the Jews had corrupted what it meant to believe in God. Much of the leadership had lost their way and continued leading people in wrong directions. Jesus Christ came displaying the heart of a servant to even death on a cross, as well as claiming deity; He called Himself God. Through Christ is a radical new birth into God’s grace and mercy – and the new birth is freely given to us, paid for by Christ. The challenge today is to live firmly grounded in the hope we have in Christ no matter what comes. He is your rock and fortress, stand firm!

In Need of an Atlas?

This Proverbs verse is clear.  What can be trusted?  Can you listen to the directions given by a man?  Can you trust that a road sign is always correct?  What if you run into a detour?  Was your GPS programmed correctly or updated or is it working in the area you are in?  Is it getting any reception?  May I suggest that the Holy Bible is the atlas for life that we each need.  We need the Word of the living God written on our hearts for any occasion.  Deception is everywhere!

Proverbs 16:25
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.
This verse is evidence that deception and lies attack us. We all have many paths to choose from in this fallen world, and there are many paths that lead to death. These paths are often laden with temptation and enticements that make them look easier or better to travel. Without the Holy Spirit’s help, wisdom, courage, faith, and grace – we will never find a way to take the road that leads to righteousness. Today, know that our path is clear. “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'”. (John 14:6)

Deception. Don’t Be Your Own Problem.

Am I alone?  I find it sobering to think we could be deceiving ourselves.  Fool yourself into thinking you are doing just fine.  What does the word of God say?

James 1:22-25
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
Our faith in Christ must collide with appropriate action. Living for Christ implies repentance and the birth of a new creation. A hunger is born for the things of God, and to live according to the new life that is found in Christ. The forgetful listener is the person who attends church every week and listens to the word, but never engages the message toward life change. The Word of God is designed to be lived out, and the hearing of the Word is a catalyst to that change. Satan continues to sabotage your life after you have heard the good news. Disregard the lies and live out the truth!

For This Time Forth and Forever

God the help of those who seek Him.
Before going further, take out your dictionary and look up the word SEEK. Sometimes we think we know the meaning of a simple word only to find out how much deeper meaning it may truly have. Let us each really seek The Lord with all our hearts and minds and spirit.

Psalm 121

1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD is your keeper;
The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.

The Amazing Rainbow Over Atlanta June 5 & Ezekiel 1:28

I had never seen such a rainbow as this in my entire life.

I don’t think I have read this verse before or it simply did not reveal itself to me before.  Read it and really think about these pictures taken by random people that day in Atlanta.

Ezekiel 1:28
As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the surrounding radiance.  Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.  And when I saw it, I fell on my face and heard a voice speaking.

Looking at the Past-Thinking about the Future

Jesus warns us about the future. He tells us it be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now.

When I think of that it honestly is a little frightening. There has been a lot of really bad stuff that I cannot conceive of.

The holocaust was one event that breaks my heart. Some of our younger generation has no clue as to what it even was. When we allow people to forget we will allow it to repeat.

I can still remember where I was and exactly what I was doing on a what appeared to be a normal day in September. Most people I know can also. My oldest son had just finished up boot camp from the Navy a few months before. I think I was in disbelief when I first heard. This cannot happen in America. We are protected. We are safe. This kind of thing only happens in other parts of the world…right?

Then we have the wrath of a powerful tornado! Just a storm. I had grown up right in tornado alley. Saw many warnings in my life time. Seems lately they have been just a little meaner. A little bigger. A little more powerful. My husband and I had the opportunity to go to Joplin Missouri to help others in the cleanup effort after they were about wiped off the face of the earth. As we drove into that town it was overwhelming. Not even sure what words I could possibly use to describe it. Mattresses were ripped in shreds and literally twisted in the tops of trees. We were with a group of about 15 people working in ONE yard. Sorting through the debris only in the yard. Wood, fiberglass, plastic and metal each with its own pile. I cannot tell you how crazy it is to realize a tornado can rip EVERYTHING in its path into tiny pieces. It was devastating to me just looking at the total destruction and yet I was only there for a day. I got to drive back to my home and bed and my life goes on. I wonder if they have their lives put back to something resembling normalcy? If they lost a loved one, well we know you can’t just rebuild that.

Jesus says….

Matthew 24:21, 25
21-For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.

25-See, I have told you ahead of time.

So my question is…
“Can your mind even imagine what kind of wrath will be poured out on the day The Lord returns?”

Are you prepared? Spiritually speaking that is. It in be a sobering thought. If you wait until you see the the destruction falling down around you and then cry out to The Lord, I am afraid it just might be too late. Don’t put it off another minute. If you do not know The Lord then cry out to Him and ask for help. He will lead you, His arms are open and waiting now.

Can you be trusted?

Do you desire to know God better? Do you have those moments where you are reading His word and it is as though God suddenly appeared and spoke the words right off the page to you? I find that to be so exciting! When it happens it is as though I am flying high in the clouds! I am so happy! I feel as though I am so close to our Father and I don’t want that to go away. But it does.

Why? Well, I can say I know in my heart He has not gone anywhere. It is I who flew off in my joy. It is like Proverbs 2:3-5 says…and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding and if you look for itas for silverand search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of The Lord and find the knowledge of God..

Looking back it seems like when I have those moments when God reveals the smallest thing to me I run off acting like I think I have the fullness of Gods wisdom. (I don’t literally think that but it appears like maybe I act that way.) God is the friend that you can rest assured will not go anywhere. He will always be there. He is simply waiting for me. Waiting to see when I am really in this thing 100%.

Daniel 10:12 Do not be afraid, Daniel. (Slip in your name instead of Daniel) Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.

Today I was reading and ran across a statement in the study I was doing. I want to share my thoughts.

The statement is as follows.
We often talk about whether we can trust God, but maybe we should be asking , Can He trust us? Can He trust us with power, insight, and influence as He did Daniel? Or will our pride get in the way?

Everyday I have to make a choice and pray that that God will grant me a willing spirit to sustain me. Pray He will create a pure heart in me. I cannot do these things on my own but only can He make me strong when I am weak. My flesh is always weak. Daily I must humble myself before The Lord. When He reveals His morsels of treasure I can rejoice in it but keep looking and seeking because there is a LOT more treasure to be found as I continue to seek His face.

So I ask myself again, Can God trust me with hIs power, insight and influence? Can I be trusted with more of His sweet and exciting insight that He reveals to me when I am seeking it?

Thank you Lord for believing in me, for not giving up on me. Thank you for your forgiveness and your mercy and grace that are all undeserved. Thank you for a new start every day.
