Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

He leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul:

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;

Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Jesus in the Old Testament

Isaiah 61 :1-2

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me;

Because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek;

He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives,

And the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,

The 2nd verse was cut in hslf.  The remaining has not come to pass yet.

2nd half of the 2nd verse.

And the day of vengeance of our God;

To comfort all that mourn;

Luke 4:16-21

And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Looking Above

Colossians 3:1-4

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Who Are You?

Something to ponder on.

  • First,in verse 1 we are to give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good.  (Ask yourself,  who do you say He is?  Try to begin to write down all of the mercies   or perhaps only some of the mercies He has extended to you. Then, again after you have done that, ask again: who do you say that He is?)
  • Next we read ‘Let the REDEEMED of the Lord say so’. Now ask yourself this question. Who do you say the redeemed are?  Why do you believe what you have just written down about who the redeemed are?
  • Lastly,  are you one of the redeemed?

Psalms 107:1-2

 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good:

For his mercy endureth for ever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,

Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

All People Hear This

No matter how alone.

No matter how sad.

No matter how hungry.

No matter how scared.

The Lord God Almighty is always there so never fall for the lies of the one who is only here to steal, kill and to destroy you.  God will rescue you into His arms after your test is over. NEVER give up.   Never give in.  THANK YOU JESUS!

Psalm 139:16-18
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.  How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!  If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

COMMENTARY

If you have ever doubted that the Lord delights in you, read these verses carefully and meditate upon the breathtaking love of God. As a loving Father, His thoughts are on us so much more than I think we credit to Him. I am often too quick to speak with God as if I’m taking time away from His already busy schedule. I treat Him as if He was doing something else before I started praying. The truth, as always, shatters the lie into pieces. When we begin to pray, His full attention has already been on us, because God’s attention can be fully on everything and everyone at once. The magnitude of who He is and what He is capable of so often escapes us, and we make the mistake of living according to that false view of Him. Infused with the truth of God’s love, live free in Christ Jesus!

Pray for Israel January 15th, 2017

I find it interesting that today, or Sunday the 15th as the 70 to 72 nations are meeting against Israel and that sadly includes the United States of America.   If you look up the daily reading of the Jewish people you will find that they include Psalm 83.  They also include Exodus 1:1-17.  Pray for the protection of Israel and pray that many might be saved.

Prayer and Fasting

Nehemiah 1:4-7
And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,  And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:  Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.  We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.

Commentary

Nehemiah has heard of the ruin of Jerusalem since being exiled, and that information has a very real impact on all levels for him. He responds to this by crying, mourning, fasting, and praying before the Lord. Through this process, Nehemiah confesses the sins of Israel on both a corporate level and a personal one. Confession of sins is vital for an authentic relationship with God. When we recognize that we have sinned, we must realize that the right thing to do is confess that wrongdoing before the Lord and ask/receive forgiveness. Nehemiah does this through prayer and fasting and the Lord grants him favor to be able to rebuild Jerusalem.

Sifting Wheat

I wonder how many of us -brothers and sisters – ,how many think we are strong enough?  How many of us think we would NEVER deny Jesus Christ?  Peter thought the same thing. We must stay prayed up.  None of us is strong enough left on our own.

Luke 22:31-34
And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:  But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.  And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.  And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
